Potentiostats & Galvanostats

Electrochemical analysis encompasses a broad range of techniques — including cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, chronoamperometry and battery testing — used to study the relationship between electrical and chemical phenomena. Electrochemical instruments such as potentiostats and galvanostats are essential in corrosion research, energy storage development, sensor fabrication, biosensor research and materials characterization.

How it works

FROM PRINCIPLE TO APPLICATION

A potentiostat controls the voltage applied between a working electrode and a reference electrode while measuring the current that flows. By applying defined potential programs — linear sweeps, potential steps or sinusoidal perturbations — the instrument probes electron transfer reactions, mass transport and interfacial processes. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) applies a small AC perturbation across a range of frequencies to resolve individual processes by their characteristic timescales, building a complete picture of electrode kinetics, double-layer capacitance and diffusion.
