The BioLogic Small Reference Electrode is a miniaturized aqueous reference electrode designed for electrochemical measurements in small-volume cells, microelectrochemical setups, and confined geometries where a standard-diameter reference electrode body would not fit or would take up too much of the available solution volume. The small form factor makes it suitable for use in thin-layer cells, the BioLogic SVC-2 analytical cell, spectroelectrochemical cells, and other compact electrochemical measurement setups.
The reference electrode provides a stable, reproducible reference potential for three-electrode electrochemical measurements with BioLogic potentiostats. A stable and well-defined reference potential is fundamental to all potentiostatic electrochemical measurements — it defines the absolute scale against which the working electrode potential is measured and controlled. Instability or drift in the reference electrode translates directly into noise or systematic error in the measured electrochemical data.
The small reference electrode is filled with aqueous reference electrolyte and uses a standard electrochemical reference chemistry (Ag/AgCl in KCl solution or similar). It includes a porous frit junction that makes electrical contact with the cell solution while preventing mixing of the reference fill solution with the cell electrolyte.
