The HORIBA XV-100 is a portable handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer designed for rapid, non-destructive elemental analysis in field, industrial, and laboratory settings where bringing samples to a stationary instrument is impractical. Handheld XRF instruments like the XV-100 allow users to simply aim and trigger the device on a sample surface, obtaining an elemental composition readout within seconds to minutes — making them essential tools for scrap metal sorting, alloy verification, soil contamination screening, art authentication, and on-site environmental monitoring. The XV-100 is equipped with a miniaturized X-ray tube and a silicon drift detector (SDD) capable of detecting elements from Mg (or Al) upwards, covering the major industrial elements (Al, Si, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Pb, Sn, Sb, Ba, and more) with good sensitivity for field conditions. The instrument includes pre-loaded calibration methods for common matrices (alloys, soils, RoHS materials), allowing one-touch analysis in standardized application modes without extensive operator training. The XV-100 features a ruggedized housing designed for industrial environments, with sufficient battery life for extended field sessions. Results are stored internally and can be transferred to a PC for reporting.
