XPLORER-TX/TS

The HORIBA XPLORER-TX and XPLORER-TS are portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) oil quality analyzers designed for on-site, rapid elemental screening of petroleum-derived fluids. The TX variant is optimized for transformer oil analysis — a critical application in electrical power infrastructure where dissolved metals and contaminants in transformer insulating oil indicate equipment deterioration, contact erosion, or overheating events that can lead to transformer failure if undetected. The TS variant targets turbine oil and similar industrial lubricants used in power generation and heavy machinery. Portable XRF analysis allows maintenance engineers and oil condition monitoring teams to screen oil samples directly in the field — at a substation, power plant, or industrial site — without waiting for laboratory turnaround, enabling faster maintenance decisions. The XPLORER-TX/TS detects and quantifies key elements in oils: wear metals (Fe, Cu, Pb, Cr, Al, Sn indicating mechanical wear), corrosion indicators, and contaminants, as well as additive elements that indicate remaining additive reserves or depletion. The instruments use a silicon drift detector and miniaturized X-ray tube in a rugged, portable housing designed for field operation. Results are displayed on an integrated screen and can be exported for reporting. Pre-loaded application methods for transformer and turbine oil matrices eliminate the need for on-site calibration.
