The HORIBA Partica CENTRIFUGE is a centrifugal sedimentation particle size analyzer providing ultra-high resolution size distributions for submicron particles from 3 nm to 6 µm, ideal for characterizing nanoparticles, pigments, and fine dispersions where laser diffraction lacks resolution.
The HORIBA Partica CENTRIFUGE is a centrifugal sedimentation particle size analyzer that achieves ultra-high resolution particle size distributions in the submicron to low-micron size range (3 nm to 6 µm) where laser diffraction instruments typically provide limited resolution. The instrument operates on the principle of centrifugal sedimentation: particles in a liquid suspension are subjected to a centrifugal field and sediment at rates proportional to their size (Stokes’ law under centrifugal force), while a photometric detector monitors the transmitted light intensity as particles settle past a fixed detection zone. Because the separation is based on actual sedimentation velocity rather than light scattering from an ensemble, the Partica CENTRIFUGE provides extremely high size resolution – capable of resolving particle populations that differ by as little as a few nanometers. This high-resolution capability is essential for characterizing nanoparticle dispersions, colloidal pigments and dyes, submicron polymer latexes, and other fine particle systems where knowing the precise shape of the size distribution (including small shoulders or secondary populations) is critical. The instrument can operate at variable centrifugal speeds to optimize the measurement for different size ranges. It is commonly used as a complementary technique to DLS (dynamic light scattering) and laser diffraction, providing size distributions based on a physical sedimentation principle rather than light scattering intensity weighting. NewRoad provides the HORIBA Partica CENTRIFUGE in Israel for nanotechnology, pigment, and colloid science applications.
