The HORIBA Mesa-50K is a benchtop EDXRF spectrometer optimized for K-line analysis of heavy elements, extending XRF performance to applications requiring high-energy excitation for accurate determination of heavier element concentrations in industrial and research samples.
The HORIBA Mesa-50K is an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer built on the Mesa-50 platform and optimized for K-line excitation of heavier elements. While standard EDXRF instruments using lower excitation voltages typically access lighter elements through their K-lines and heavier elements through their L-lines, the Mesa-50K is configured for higher-energy operation that enables excitation and detection of K-lines for a wider range of heavier elements — providing better peak-to-background ratios, improved sensitivity, and more accurate quantification for applications where L-line interference or matrix absorption effects are concerns. The Mesa-50K is equipped with a high-power X-ray tube and silicon drift detector optimized for the higher-energy spectral range. This makes it particularly well suited for analysis of heavy metals in environmental samples (soil, sediment, water), elemental assay of alloys and metals (Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Pb, and beyond), determination of rare earth elements in geological and mining samples, and quality control of industrial catalysts and process chemicals. The system supports solid and liquid samples, pressed pellets, and thin films, with quantitative analysis via fundamental parameters or calibration curves. Its benchtop form factor and integrated radiation safety design allow installation in standard laboratory environments without special facility requirements. NewRoad provides the HORIBA Mesa-50K in Israel for environmental monitoring laboratories, metal processing quality control, and research institutions requiring precise heavy element analysis by EDXRF.
