The Nanosurf DriveAFM is a research-grade atomic force microscope with photothermal excitation (BlueDrive) and closed-loop XY scanner for high-resolution imaging, nanomechanics, and quantitative nanoscale measurements in air and liquid.
The Nanosurf DriveAFM is a top-of-the-line research AFM featuring photothermal cantilever excitation (BlueDrive technology), which eliminates acoustic forest artifacts and provides clean cantilever resonance curves in both air and liquid.
Key technology – BlueDrive photothermal excitation:
– Laser heats the cantilever directly at its base; avoids parasitic resonances from acoustic piezo excitation
– Clean resonance peak in liquid: critical for biological imaging where multiple spurious peaks complicate AM-AFM
– Direct drive: phase and amplitude response follow ideal simple harmonic oscillator; enables quantitative nanomechanics
Scanner and performance:
– XY scan range: 100×100 um (closed loop); Z range: 15 um
– XY noise: <30 pm RMS (closed loop); Z noise: <15 pm RMS
- Scan speed: up to 4 lines/second for standard imaging; video-rate option available
- Sample stage: 150 mm diameter; top-down optical access; temperature control option
Operating modes:
- Static force modes: contact, lateral force, force-distance
- Dynamic modes: AM-AFM (tapping), FM-AFM, PFM (piezoresponse), MFM, EFM
- Nanomechanics: PeakForce QNM (quantitative modulus, adhesion, deformation maps)
- Liquid imaging: full immersion; closed fluid cell for biological samples
- Conductance/KPFM: surface potential and work function mapping
