The KSV NIMA Surface Potential Sensor is a Kelvin probe-based accessory for Langmuir troughs that measures the electrostatic surface potential of molecular monolayers at the air-water interface. Surface potential provides complementary information to the Pi-A isotherm by revealing changes in molecular orientation, dipole moment, and film organization invisible to mechanical measurements alone. The sensor uses the vibrating capacitor (Kelvin probe) principle, detecting the potential difference between the monolayer-covered and clean water surfaces. Measurements are particularly valuable for studying charged films, ion adsorption, and the orientation of polar headgroups in lipid monolayers.
