SPRi-Arrayer

The HORIBA SPRi-Arrayer is a robotic microarraying instrument designed for precise, contact-free dispensing of biomolecular solutions onto SPRi gold biochips to create multiplexed biosensor arrays for use with the HORIBA OpenPlex SPR imaging system. Creating a well-defined, spatially addressable array of biomolecular probes is essential for multiplexed SPRi experiments: each spot on the biochip is functionalized with a different ligand (antibody, protein, aptamer, peptide, nucleic acid) so that when an analyte sample is flowed over the chip, the OpenPlex can simultaneously detect binding at each spot and identify which ligands are bound. The SPRi-Arrayer uses piezoelectric dispensing technology to deposit nanoliter to picoliter volumes of each biomolecular solution precisely at defined positions on the chip surface, minimizing sample consumption and allowing small molecules to be spotted with high positional accuracy. The instrument is controlled by dedicated arraying software that defines the spotting pattern, volume per spot, and spotting sequence. Spotting can be performed in a humidity-controlled environment to prevent premature evaporation and ensure reproducible spot morphology and surface density. The SPRi-Arrayer accommodates multiple different biochip formats and can spot different molecules from different source wells in a single automated run. Working together, the SPRi-Arrayer (for chip preparation) and the OpenPlex (for measurement) provide a complete workflow for label-free multiplexed biosensing from chip to result.
