FUTEK Low Profile Multi-Axis sensors are flat, compact force and torque transducers measuring three or more mechanical components simultaneously — typically Fx, Fy, Fz, and Tz — in a thin disc form factor designed for space-constrained robotic, biomedical, and precision assembly applications.
FUTEK Low Profile Multi-Axis sensors are multi-component transducers in a flat disc form factor that measure three or more force and torque components simultaneously. Common configurations include three-axis force (Fx, Fy, Fz), three-axis force plus torque (Fx, Fy, Fz, Tz), and six-degree-of-freedom versions measuring all three forces and all three moments (Fx, Fy, Fz, Mx, My, Mz). The defining characteristic of the Low Profile family is the minimized axial height — the disc thickness — which allows integration into robots, grippers, prosthetic limbs, surgical tools, and test fixtures where vertical stack height is a hard constraint.
Each measurement axis uses an independent strain gauge bridge circuit arranged to respond primarily to that axis while rejecting the others. Geometric symmetry of the sensing element and compensation resistors in each bridge network reduce inter-axis cross-talk to specification without requiring software correction in the data acquisition system, though post-processing correction matrices are also available for the highest accuracy.
The low profile disc geometry is compatible with standard robot wrist bolt patterns and ISO flange dimensions, simplifying integration into collaborative and industrial robot arms. Through-hole versions allow cable, tool, or fastener pass-through. Standard mV/V output per axis; optional integrated multi-channel amplifiers provide simultaneous analog voltage or USB digital output for all axes in a single connection.
Applications include robotic end-of-arm force/torque sensing for compliant assembly and contact detection, prosthetic and orthotic limb load monitoring, surgical instrument force feedback, material testing machine alignment, and quality control inspection fixtures.
