FUTEK Low Profile load cells are compression force sensors characterized by a wide, flat form factor that provides high structural rigidity and stable load bearing. Unlike taller compression sensors, the low profile design minimizes the height contribution to a test assembly while providing a large bearing surface that distributes load evenly and reduces the effect of eccentric or off-axis loading. This makes Low Profile load cells the preferred choice for integration into test machines, press beds, and structural test frames where the sensor must be incorporated into an existing mechanical load path with minimal intrusion.

The sensing element uses a shear or compression column design with multiple bonded foil strain gauges in a fully active Wheatstone bridge. Precision machining ensures excellent output linearity and low hysteresis across the full rated capacity. Temperature compensation circuits maintain accuracy over the sensor’s operating temperature range. Available materials include alloy steel with nickel plating and stainless steel for environments requiring corrosion resistance.

Capacities range from tens of newtons up to several hundred kilonewtons or more, covering laboratory-scale testing through heavy structural and civil engineering applications. Standard mV/V output is compatible with all strain-gauge data acquisition systems; integrated amplifier versions provide analog voltage, current, USB, or CANbus output for direct controller or computer integration.

Common applications include UTM (universal testing machine) force measurement, hydraulic press monitoring, structural compression testing of columns, foundations, and construction materials, bearing and joint preload monitoring, and reference standard weighing systems.
