The HORIBA EMGA Expert 20E and EMGA Expert 30E are inert gas fusion (IGF) analyzers for the determination of oxygen and nitrogen in solid inorganic materials, with variants optimized for different application requirements. The 20E model is designed for standard metals and alloy analysis: steels, stainless steels, copper alloys, aluminum, titanium, and other metals where oxygen and nitrogen content are critical quality parameters. The 30E model extends the capability to ceramics, refractories, and high-melting-point materials that require higher fusion temperatures or different crucible configurations. In both instruments, the measurement principle is the same: a sample is fused in a graphite crucible under inert gas flow; oxygen reacts with carbon to form CO/CO2 (measured by NDIR for oxygen quantification), and nitrogen is released as N2 (measured by thermal conductivity detection, TCD). The multi-channel NDIR and TCD detection in both models covers the analytical range from sub-ppm (for ultra-clean metals like oxygen-free copper or aerospace-grade titanium) to percent levels (for refractories, slags, and high-oxygen content materials). The 20E/30E series provides traceability to international standards for O and N analysis (ASTM, ISO, DIN) and supports quality management requirements for traceable analytical results.
