The BioLogic Standard Corrosion Cell is a conventional three-electrode electrochemical cell designed for corrosion measurements on cylindrical, rod-shaped, or disk-shaped metal working electrode samples that can be immersed in the electrolyte solution. It provides a reliable, standardized measurement environment for the full range of electrochemical corrosion characterization techniques available in EC-Lab.

The Standard Corrosion Cell accommodates a cylindrical working electrode specimen (rod or disk format), with the cell body providing the electrolyte volume, ports for the reference electrode and counter electrode placement, and typically a gas purge port for N2/Ar deaeration when measurements must be performed in oxygen-free conditions. The three-electrode configuration — working sample electrode, reference electrode (commonly Ag/AgCl or SCE), and large counter electrode — provides precise electrochemical control of the working electrode potential and accurate measurement of the corrosion current.

Standard corrosion measurements performed in this cell include: open circuit potential (OCP) monitoring to assess sample stability, linear polarization resistance (LPR) for rapid corrosion rate determination, full potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel) scans for kinetic parameters and corrosion current extrapolation, galvanostatic/potentiostatic transients, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for characterization of the electrode/electrolyte interface, oxide films, and coating integrity.
