Optosigma Beam Expanders are refractive and reflective beam expansion systems that increase or reduce collimated laser beam diameter while preserving collimation, available in fixed magnifications from 2x to 20x for CW and pulsed laser systems from UV through IR.
Optosigma Beam Expanders are precision optical systems used to expand or reduce the diameter of a collimated laser beam without introducing divergence. They are available in refractive (lens-based) and reflective (mirror-based) designs, each suited to different wavelength ranges and power levels.
Refractive beam expanders:
– Galilean design (no internal focus): compact, suitable for CW and low-energy pulsed lasers; avoids air breakdown at focus
– Keplerian design (with internal focus): longer but allows spatial filtering at internal focus; used in high-quality beam cleanup
– Available for UV (193 nm), visible (355, 532, 633 nm), NIR (1064 nm), and IR (CO2, 10600 nm) wavelengths
– AR-coated elements for minimal reflection losses
Reflective beam expanders:
– All-mirror design: no chromatic aberration; suitable for ultra-broadband or ultrashort pulse applications
– Used when refractive optics introduce unwanted dispersion (femtosecond lasers)
Fixed magnifications available: 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 20x; some models offer adjustable (zoom) expansion for flexibility. Output beam quality (M2) is preserved when input is a good Gaussian beam.
