FUTEK Custom OEM Sensors are sensing elements and transducers developed specifically for integration into OEM products — scientific instruments, industrial machines, medical devices, test equipment, and consumer products — where the sensor becomes a permanent, embedded component of the final system rather than a standalone measurement instrument.

The OEM sensor development process differs from standard custom sensor work in scale and integration depth. FUTEK works from the OEM’s product requirements — available space envelope, target measurement axis (force, torque, pressure, or combined), mechanical interface to the machine’s load path, required accuracy and repeatability, operating environment, electrical interface to the OEM’s control electronics, and target production volume — and designs a sensing element that can be produced repeatedly at volume with consistent performance.

Form factor options span from miniature beam elements (a few millimeters in cross-section) for integration into handheld tools, surgical instruments, and small actuators, up to industrial-scale structural sensing elements for integration into heavy machinery. Sensing principles available include bonded foil strain gauges on machined metal elements (for robustness and cost-effectiveness in volume production), silicon piezoresistive elements (for higher sensitivity and smaller size), and piezoelectric elements (for dynamic force measurement in high-frequency applications).

Integrated ASIC-based signal conditioning electronics can be specified to provide a calibrated, temperature-compensated, EMC-hardened output directly compatible with the OEM’s MCU, PLC, or analog input — eliminating an external signal conditioner from the OEM’s BOM. Production documentation includes manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, material certifications, batch calibration data, and quality records for ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 (medical device) compliance.
