Vibration Isolation Systems

Vibration isolation systems are mechanical and active platforms designed to attenuate environmental vibrations — from building movement, foot traffic, HVAC systems, and acoustic noise — that would otherwise compromise the performance of sensitive scientific instruments. In applications such as atomic force microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, interferometry, and precision optical setups, even sub-nanometer vibrations degrade image quality and measurement accuracy. NewRoad provides passive and active vibration isolation tables and platforms engineered for ultra-precision instrumentation environments.

How it works

FROM PRINCIPLE TO APPLICATION

Passive vibration isolation systems use compliant mounts — air springs, elastomeric elements, or coiled springs — to create a mechanical low-pass filter. The platform natural resonant frequency is tuned well below dominant building vibration frequencies; above this resonance, vibration transmission drops rapidly. Active systems add accelerometers and voice-coil actuators controlled by feedback electronics to cancel vibrations actively, achieving effective isolation at frequencies as low as 0.5 Hz. Combined pneumatic-active systems provide broadband isolation from sub-Hz environmental noise to high-frequency acoustic disturbances.
