Langmuir-Blodgett

KSV NIMA is the leading platform for Langmuir trough and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film research, offering precise control of monomolecular films at air-water interfaces and their transfer onto solid substrates as organized thin films. This technique is fundamental to surface science, enabling the study of lipid monolayers, amphiphilic polymers, and nanoparticle assemblies at interfaces. NewRoad provides KSV NIMA Langmuir troughs, LB deposition systems, and accessories for thin film research, biosensor development, and materials characterization.

How it works

FROM PRINCIPLE TO APPLICATION

A KSV NIMA Langmuir trough contains an aqueous subphase with moveable barriers that compress the available surface area. Amphiphilic molecules spread at the air-water interface form a Langmuir monolayer; as barriers compress the film, surface pressure (measured by a Wilhelmy plate sensor) increases, yielding a pressure-area isotherm that characterizes molecular packing and phase transitions. For Langmuir-Blodgett deposition, a solid substrate is precisely dipped through the monolayer at controlled speed and surface pressure, transferring each organized layer onto the substrate with molecular precision.
